When it gets this cold in Prague, it is not a bad idea to get some sun somewhere else. And a return flight with SmartWings is not even that expensive. And there is a company renting E-bikes plus a guide to show you around. Yes, we did this little ride with our excellent guide Maciej and his selection of E-bikes. The ride was fun, but we have to make a little comment: The website of this company may be a little confusing – our trip was called Lunar Landscape, but actually it did not go to the Lunar Landscape and it did not start from “famous biker’s cafe” in Vilaflor (there is not a famous biker’s cafe).
However, if you don’t want to use them and you rent your bike somewhere else, you can follow our map and combine your trip with a walk to very interesting area of Lunar Landscape. Unfortunately, biking to that super interesting place is forbidden (and as Maciej told us “demanding and very technical”), and so you have to leave your bike at the point 4 and continue on foot following red and yellow mark uphill. Obviously, if you are on a guided trip this is not an option.
If you start your trip on the parking lot in Vilaflor, you will first ride 2.3 km on an asphalt road up to point 2, where you will join a wide dirt road. This will lead you all the way to point 3, an obvious end of the road at the steep canyon which may sometime contain a little stream. That is why it is called Barranco del Rio. Most of the ride will be winding its way through the ancient Canary Pine forests with the views down to the sea beaches and up to the Teide volcano area.
On the way back you will climb to 1945 m and after that enjoy a long ride down to the starting place. The last 4.2 km from point 5 you will be on a steep downhill asphalt road going as fast as you find enjoyable.
