Vranov dam was finished in 1933, so it is one of the oldest dams in Czechia. Castle Vranov nad Dyjí has a long history going back all the way to the year 1100. This time of the year was not crowded with tourist, but in the summer this area may be busting at the seams – Vranov dam is a popular destination for all kinds of water sports.
We stayed in the pension Jelen (Deer), which we can recommend without hesitation for its very friendly owners and great breakfast. We show as the starting point a tiny parking next to the popular watering hole Country Saloon with very authentic wild west vibes.
At point 4 you will cross to Austria and soon you will join regular road which will lead you to the smallest town in Austria Hardegg with its imposing castle. After crossing Thaya (Dyje) over the bridge which for closed for decades, you should not miss a little side trip to point 10 from which you can see this little town perfectly.
You will end your trip riding along Vranov lake (visit the bridge at point 14) and visiting a little bridge of countess Mniszkova at 15.
