Another E-bike trip we took in German National Park Harz started from the town of Bad Lauterberg im Harz. We already knew that to expect nice asphalt bike paths is not reasonable, but we were still for a rude awakening. So, definitely take a mountain bike!
Ride starts along the lake on a river Oder and after crossing the main road goes steep uphill for 4.5 kilometers. And soon after that you will be faced with a task to find point 3 – it is not obvious and you will be wondering why not many bikers go through there. The next 500 m will tell you why – it is pretty tricky. Do not even try to ride the last 50 m. But you can walk you bike down with a good caution. Looking at the pointer on the other end of this stretch you will not be surprised that it was marked “schweriger weg” (more difficult way). You can also avoid this piece by going from 3 to 5 through Oderberg (turn to right at 3), but then you would miss a nice ride from 4 to 5.
Shaken by the 3 to 4 stretch, we were a little afraid that the long downhill stretch to the Bad Lauterberg may hide some surprises, but it was basically smooth sailing back to the start.
