Ještěd and Kryštofovo Údolí

Kryštofovo Údolí was recently pronounced to be a village conservation zone, that is a protected heritage area. And it is well deserved, the village is really perfectly maintained. We found a perfect lodging at the place “U Uhlířů“, an old typical village house transformed into a pension and restaurant. Mrs. Houšková will make your stay special with her cooking – I never had Szegedin goulash served with a flower.

You can start your ride anywhere in the village, but to be able to come back and not have to go anywhere but your bed is quite pleasant. This E-bike trip has a lot of climbing. After a smaller loop through the forests of this nice valley from 1 to 5, your long climb will lead you to the top of Ještěd with its characteristic tower.

That tower was built in 1973 according a project of Karel Hubáček and received a number of architectural awards. It is definitely worth the trip to see it up close and look even at the art pieces scattered in and around it.

This ride can be done on any type of bike, the path is without any surprises. However, we found a surprise! We definitely recommend to stop at point 4, where you will find a “transbordér” – an open cabin which you can manually operate from within and pull yourself across the river. Transborder is by definition a system for crossing the border – and here it really crosses the border between towns Chrastava and Liberec. 39.6 km, 906 m elevation gain.
