Unhošť

One of our followers (JV) was wondering why we never tried the ride starting from Unhošť following the stream of the brook Loděnice. So, we did. And, yes, it is one of the best rides close to Prague! You will be going through the beautiful natural park “Povodí Kačáku“.

You can start on several parkings in Unhošť, or you can come by train from the station Praha Dejvice coming to station Pavlov or Unhošť. Arriving in Pavlov is preferable.

After riding through Unhošť you will join the green tourist mark and follow the meandering stream of Loděnice to point 7. You will arrive to the same point on the way back, and you would be able to either retrace the nice winding road along the water to where you started, or go straight to Unhošť on a rather boring road.

You can skip the points 8 to 10, but in that case you would miss the visit to the “osada” with some picturesque features next to the new brewery “Dědkův Mlýn” (point 11), which was opening just a day after our visit, so we cannot comment on their beer yet.

Riding from 15 to 16 along the forest edge will give you nice views to the countryside. After Chyňava you will go uphill to Kamenná and down to Železná – do not miss the waterman (Vodník) at point 19. At point 20 you may look for geocache which is untypically located quite far from the listed coordinates, and at point 22 you may take a little side trip (hard uphill) to the view tower Lhotka (see our previous blog).

At point 24 enjoy the look at the nice Japanese garden on your left, and at 25 make a choice to follow the red tourist mark or follow suggested path which may be quite muddy after rainy days. At point 28 you have to make the big decission – going for the adrenalin ride following the red tourist mark, or take it easy and go to the point 33 by the asphalt road. Point 29 is in the middle of very bumpy uphill climb and point 30 is on the steep slippery slope downhill.

Map shows the part 32 to 33 as closed, but when we rode it yesterday, it was perfectly fine. From 33 to 37 you will be following the little stream through the nice valley again. Just before you will cross the bridge over the stream, you will be riding along the property of the richest family of the Czechia, the Kellners. The little stretch 35 to 36 is very narrow and if you would turn into it too fast without looking and meet somebody riding or walking in the other direction, you may both end up taking a little bath.

If you would become hungry, you may stop at the restaurant Srub in Podkozí, very friendly personnel will take a good care of you and if you will show them this blog, they may even give you a free Kofola.
