Empty Český Krumlov

We heard that Český Krumlov was suffering from neglect by tourists of all kinds. Basically, the reporter said that the town was completely empty. Therefore, it was necessary to check whether it was not some “fake news”, and we had to go there to see it with our own eyes. After the quick walk through the town center, it was obvious that it is an opportunity to see it all by biking around the empty streets and squares, unlike in our previous visit.

So, if you want to try it too, you can follow the map below. We started from a parking lot close to the Latrán quarter. After following the river to point 3, you can take a shortcut from 3 to 4 passing through the building courtyards. Note the names on ground stones! Then you quickly explore Parkán street and ride through the “inner town” to point 7 and from there follow the river in the opposite direction. The map shows that you should go back on the main road to reach point 10 since 9 to 10 is a one-way street. However, as we strongly recommend, do this ride only when the town is empty (January, February), and nobody will notice you riding in the wrong direction. By the way, 8 to 9 is a one-way and very narrow uphill street and the map showed it was accessible.

From point 11 you will enter the old town as most tourists do. After that, you will ride through every street of this most beautiful part of the town and if you are lucky, you will not meet any tourists walking around. You should be very careful riding down the super narrow street (14 to 15) – it is tricky to pass along anybody there. If you are tired of riding on the cobblestones, you can take a break at Omnes Caffe at point 18.  At point 23 the map shows restrictions for bicycles, but in reality, there is no sign which would say that. So, after riding through the park, you will cross the river twice and climb to the castle gardens. From there you will be going only downhill. At point 31 you will see the sign prohibiting riding through the castle. So you can follow the road to point 32, or walk your bike through the castle to point 38. If you decide to do that, you can go back to point 33 and finish riding along with the map.
