Back in Nové Hrady

We came back to Novohradské hory to check out the new part along the border with Austria, and also to visit the artificial waterfall in Terčino valley and study its construction. As during our last visit we stayed in Zevlův Mlýn, where you can find reasonable accommodation, very good dinner and excellent locally brewed beer. You can start this ride anywhere on our map, besides Zevlův Mlýn a good parking spot is at the main square Náměstí Republiky at point 8. It will cost you 10 Kč/hour, but it is a good point for visiting Restaurace Pod Radnicí, where they will prepare an excellent lunch for you. And if you will not find something not included on the menu, just ask for it anyway – we tested it with Hot Raspberries (Horké maliny), our favorite dessert – and it worked like magic.

After climbing a hill from point 3 you will see how the border with “The West” looked in the last century and you will understand why a lot of people died trying to cross it to the freedom.

At point 11 you may be surprised by the waterfall coming out of the middle of the rocky wall and you will wonder how this natural phenomenon came to existence. After riding to point 12, 13 and 14 you will understand that it was just a little toy created by count Buquoy for the enjoyment of his wife Terezie.

There are several short stretches of tricky riding on this loop, but you have to pay attention especially between points 16 and 17 where you may encounter pedestrians on a very narrow path – you may even consider walking your bike.
