Šumava is our favorite place to go for E-bike rides. So we went there again to show it to our daughter and her fiancé. Obviously we would not fit in our car with the bikes, so we had to rent locally. We tried new Apache and Crussis E-bikes. And, actually we did not see any big difference from our good old Apaches… We described trips from Modrava earlier, going to the west or east, so this time we just made it a little longer and added some points to the rides.
So going to east starts with a long uphill ride to point 4. After that we added a stop with a visit to the exhibition of the history of the border at point 7. Back in the old times we could not even get close to the border to see how it looks from our side, but I was lucky to see it from the German side during a short visit to “the west” in 1969.
After that you can enjoy a long smooth ride downhill and through the meadows to Knizeci Plane at 8. Couple hundred meters after that you may notice works of beavers on the right hand side of the road. After that you will be passing Borova Lada and Nove Hute and climbing to Churanov. It is possible to use a shortcut 11 to 14, but following our map is using easier path and allowing you to stop at an excellent refreshment point (cukrarna Ella) at 12, where you can even charge your bike.

Going west start with a short downhill on a road to point 2. After that you will follow an Vchynicko-Tetovsky canal which was used for transporting wood out of the forest. It is 13.6 km long and definitely a technical curiosity worth noting.
At point 7 starts a long uphill struggle – you will be really happy to have an E-bike. We recommend to take aside trip to point 9 to visit Prasilske lake – however, you will have to walk the last couple hundred meters, not even E-bike would help here. Another side trip is to the top of Polednik with the observing tower allowing you to look at the devastation of the local forest by combination of pollution, bark beetles and tornado.
After Polednik you may ride only downhill if you will not visit Trijezerni slat at point 12. At the end you will definitely deserve a beer in the brewery Lyer at point 13, where you can also stay for the night.

Anyway, Sumava is the best place for the riding in Czechia. We visited the meantioned places manytimes, but, I have to admit, we do not have so beautiful photos😄. According us the part from Buciny to Knizeci Plane is the most beautiful countryside for riding in our country and we have a lot of nice places😄.
