We have mentioned parts of this ride before, but, interestingly, you can always discover new aspects of this short and pleasant ride, especially if you ride it in two different directions. In the first case you start with a tunnel built for the railway in 1870 (between 3 and 4) and later, after a lot of discussions, changed into a bike route in 2010. And you will end going uphill through tunnel connecting Karlín with Žižkov, which was built in 1953 partly as a bomb shelter. Nowadays it is used as a laboratory – a branch of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Řež near Prague. A particle accelerator is installed here, a smaller version of an accelerator similar to the one in CERN in Switzerland. It is hidden behind a steel door on the side of the tunnel.
At point 6 you will join the dirt road uphill which will lead you to the top of the hill Třešňovka (7) with signs showing directions to many Czech mountains which you can imagine seeing from there. Another interesting part is the ride along meanders of Rokytka (8 and 9), where you can spot a beaver’s work on one of the trees close to the water.
This ride is quite short, so you can just turn around and ride it in the other direction and you will see that you will notice a lot of different details.
